EDIT: some have asked why i chose a magnolia. i grew up in mississippi which is of course, the magnolia state. but it's really more of the idea or feeling that once you leave home no other place really feels like home. even when you go back home it's not home anymore, it's not the same as it was, it never feels the same. and there's that period of your life, a sort of non-home period between leaving your family and starting your own family where you're sort of on a quest for home. so it's sort of a reminder of what was once home. magnolia trees, back porches, hummingbird feeders, screen doors, and mosquitos.
I was just looking at some of your previous posts. Anyway, that same lady tattooed me too. I just had to comment. I think it was maybe Jan. 06 for me.
ReplyDeleteso i just googled "magnolia tattoos" and this image came up! absolutely beautiful! and i loved your edit: the reasoning behind why you chose a magnolia. i have a tattoo for my son, and i'd like to get another for my daughter. her name is Layla May, after my grandma that passed away a couple of years ago. and grandma was also from Mississippi! when her health was deteriorating, and she just kept holding on, we would call her our steel magnolia. i love MS, and can't wait to get back down there to show off MY family to grandma's sisters. i CAN'T wait! sorry this was such a random comment, but i just love your tattoo!

ReplyDeleteHi I felt compelled to comment. I also grew up in Miss. and miss the same things. I think it certainly is a special place. A place that I will forever miss just like that pine tree smell and endless dirt roads. I am a guy and want to get a magnolia tat so i've been looking for designs. i so your post and could certainly identify.
ReplyDeleteHey...Love the tat and story behind it..I am from MS, born and raised 32 yrs. I recently moved to TX 6 mths ago. My Grandmother passed away a year and a half ago at the age of 91. A truly very strong Mississippi woman. I miss her so much, and decided now I can get a tattoo for her. The Southern Magnolia is the perfect choice to represent her. I searched for Southern Magnolia tats and this one came up. I think it's awesome and am about to go get one right now!!
