remember when i used to set the alarm 20 minutes early so we'd have enough time to kiss before you left me for work

monday, may 14th, 2007

r,

i was thinking about the other night when i posed the question "i wonder what it would have been like to have lived back then" referring to the jimi hendrix era. you said probably the same as it is now. i've been thinking about that. how it's true and in the different ways that it is true.

i think a lot about how people have believed they all lived in modern times throughout history but each era becomes antiquated. modernity becomes antiquity. one of the funniest things i've ever heard was the director of the u.s. patent office wanted to close the whole bureau down about 1900 because he thought everything that could be invented had been invented.

it seems like forever since i've seen you.

m

m,

can you believe i've only been up 30 minutes? it was accidental.
making peach oatmeal took it out of me, i think.

the alarm clock was invented in 1787 by a New Englander who
believed in rising each day at 4am. i wonder if it was so he could
start his day kissing, too.

baby baby

m and i will celebrate our two year
this cinco de mayo during which we
will reenact that half drunken 3 am
romp on my front porch that took place
way back when. at least i hope we will.

also, i'm putting all baby baby scarves on
sale from now till then.

Pistachio Eaters Against the Chief Elder

the dinosaurs

last year i found a mint condition dinosaurs
twin sized sheet set while rummaging through
the linens bin at goodwill by the lb. they've
been sitting in a big black garbage bag in the
trunk of my car along with a charlie brown/peanuts
set and various granny sweaters since. it smells
thrifty back there. i'm thinking of cutting them
up and making silly summer dresses with them since
they remind me of friday nights lying belly down
on the living room floor next to my brother for
prime time viewing.

also, this:
dinosaurs

goodwill by the lb has gone up from $1/lb to $1.08/lb
here. i thought i'd read that thrift stores were being
frequented more often in the flailing economy, so i'm
not quite sure i see the goodwill behind this move.
was it a necessary one? does goodwill need the extra $
to stay afloat or are they just preying on the more
pressing need for affordable wares in today's circumstances?
