copy, RIGHT?

Nothing is original.

Steal from anywhere that
resonates with inspiration
or fuels your imagination.

Devour
old films,
new films,
music,
books,
paintings,
photographs,
poems,
dreams,
random conversations,
architecture,
bridges,
street signs,
trees,
clouds,
bodies of water,
light and shadows.

Select only things to steal from that
speak directly to your soul.

If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic.

Authenticity is invaluable; originality is nonexistent.

And don’t bother concealing your thievery — celebrate it if you feel like it.

In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said:

“It’s not where you take things from —
it’s where you take them to.

-Jim Jarmusch

Some girl on etsy is copying my chain scarves or

I feel she is

because I'd never seen crocheted
chain scarves there before

and I searched and
searched before I put mine out there to try
and make sure.

So I feel pretty sure because
the same girl has followed me and friended me
on various other sites.

Anyway.

I tried to read
some things to feel better about it

because I'd be
hypocritical if I got too upset over it because I've
always read quotes and things like this and liked them

and always thought it silly when others were so quick
to accuse someone else of design theft

and none of
us invented the cowl even though lots of people like
to take credit as if they did

(it seems i've seen this
so much lately!).

But it still sort of stings when you
think it happens to you

so welcome to the other side
of the fence

although I'm not going to call out any
names or send an angry mob to her shop.

I'll just sulk
a day or two and get over it

because that's really all
i can do

and i'd rather be making other newer things than
wasting more time on this than i already just now have.

still stings though.

break

yesterday i forced myself not to say crochet or shop or orders
once during the entire entry. the past few days have been
a break since i've caught up, but tomorrow i'm going to get
ahead which will be the first time in what seems ages. as
soon as i sat down with my hook today a headache broke out
across the bridge of my nose. my neck aches and my body feels
heavy from all the days of sitting working sitting. my gym
closed suddenly without warning and i've got to find another. the
night outside is so cold now especially when i ran to walgreens
for cat food and children's benadryl with my dress and tights
not thick enough for any barricade against the 11pm chill. tomorrow
we are taking m's little one bowling and tomorrow also we are birthday partying
for m's 3-yrs-to-be neice. life seems weird like this sometimes
with such normal things.

janet planet

just now i spent a few minutes searching for photos of janet
planet online. it's become an occassional ritual and still
there are no more photos than the last time or the time before
though somehow i think there should be and i really don't
know why this is something that i do. i wish it were midnight
instead of 1.30 in the morning. the cats are circling below -
there is no canned food and i think maybe they know it now -
their usual time for feeding has passed. i have a hard time
sleeping in our bed alone. m is lying with the little one and
the only options seem the couch or leftover codeine or tylenol
pm maybe. or also 4 am on the internet reading journal entries
from 2004 or all the beat poetry i used to still do like.
fashion blogs are out and i want lists of things you did today
instead of what you wore. or anything at all but today i
went shopping for fish and had dinner with ann and greg and held
c's hand and m is up so now i'll go to bed even though
my side is cold and the cats are still waiting tonight for
dinner.

practice

practice layout

practice layout

practice table on an unstable wobbly bed surface.
i wanted to get an idea of layout and make sure i
had enough stuff. it'll look (much) better in person
+ more decor and general shininess.
