guest post: april and maya of so yeah...so

I love the idea of a mother/daughter blog and these guys churn out some pretty great posts, so I was jazzed to have So Yeah...So as softspoken sponsors for August. Hope you enjoy their guest post below and give them lots of blog love!

Hi Softspoken readers! April and Maya here from So Yeah...So. We're a mom and daughter running a lifestyle blog with a heavy emphasis on food and style. Maya is about to start high school, and recently hosted a back to school clothing swap. She's hosted one of these before, and April used to host them all the time when we lived in Arkansas. Maya will tell you more about her most recent swap since she planned and executed it all on her own.

Clothing Swap

First, the food.

I didn't really want to do something overly complicated. So when my best friend, Jasmine, came over early that morning to help, we decided on some mixed sandwiches, chips, cupcakes, and drinks.

Clothing Swap

The cupcakes are actually Nutella swirled vanilla cupcakes, and they taste amazing. It was the first time we made this recipe, so the fact things weren't looking like they supposed to be was a little disheartening. Fortunately, except being a tad dry, they were pretty great! A nice surprise was that the batter tasted kinda like bananas, despite us not putting anything banana-related in it. The drinks are Blackberry, Peach, and Apple Izzes. They were on sale at our People's Food Co-Op, so my mom picked some up. The chips are a certain favorite of ours, Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips. And lastly, we have some fresh turkey and ham sandwiches with the usual condiments. Shortly after this picture, all the food was nearly gone. A few of the sandwiches were stolen by my cat, who thinks she's a ninja. But I saw her!

Clothing Swap

Okay, so on to the actual swap. Instead of actually sorting the clothes and folding them neatly, we tend to just dump them in a huge pile, mix them all up, and let everyone dig in. It's more fun that way.

Clothing Swap

We all tend to find something we like. No one goes home empty handed.

Clothing Swap

After we were done with the clothes, we took the small bowl of accessories and sifted through it.

Clothing Swap

And when everything's done, we played some Mario Kart Wii and Super Mario Bros.

A clothing swap is a really fun way to get friends together, and an awesomely cheap way to get new clothes.

Have you ever hosted a clothing swap?

Man, wish I'd known these gals when I was in high school!  Clothes, Mario Kart, Sun Chips and Izzes - what more could you want?  Thanks for the post April and Maya... now to try out that Nutella cupcake recipe...

the only high rise i need...

IMG_0104-1.JPG_effected.png

on my birthday m took me out shopping and i got a few things but spent at least an hour just playing around in the dressing room with a huge pile of clothes. but one of the things i did bring home as a birthday present was this pair of jeans which are the high waisted jeans i've always been looking for. I've never been able to find a pair of jeans that claimed to be high waisted which when i put them on were really just at-the-waist jeans - or if they did sit high enough for my liking they had some ugly yoke type thing at the top or a long row of buttons down the front or some weird stitching - when what I always wanted was just a simple pair that came right above my belly button and just below the boobs - a decent 11-12" rise or so. these have not only that but a bonus feature - patch pockets!

'scuse the cat hair and errant red thread and in yr face boobs and just focus on that nice high waist like i want ya to.
